A simple breath exercise to free yourself from anxiety.

It's a common misconception that meditation is something we do when we have a special room, a yoga mat and no interruptions of any kind. What I've come to value, though, are the tiny spaces in my day when I can focus on my breathing. In line at the grocery store is one of those times. Since this is something most of us have to do on a regular basis, it's really the perfect opportunity to practice. Next time you find yourself in this situation, try this out. When you begin to feel the beginnings of an anxious episode...stop...get still, and focus on your belly. (no one will even know you're meditating in the middle of the grocery store, lol!) Take a breath in through your nose, long and slow for four counts as you notice your belly expanding ever so slightly...hold it for just a sweet moment, then calmly exhale through the mouth for another count of four. I think you'll be surprised at how this brief time with your holy breath can reset your nervous system. You might find yourself doing this at traffic lights too! Enjoy this time with precious you.
